Back in January, I shared a post about how we play “musical beds” in our house at night; here’s the post (in case you missed it)—
Today, I’m back with more sleep-related shenanigans…because when it comes to parenting, sleep (or the lack thereof) is the VERY HARDEST part of the job (for me).
Sleep deprivation is the parenting challenge that I didn’t see coming and certainly didn’t understand before becoming a parent. Not sleeping well for almost 9 years now (!!!) has taken a toll on my body and my mind and I know it’s done the same for Ben and of course, for so many of you.
Exhaustion is no joke.
And even though my kids are older now (Teddy turns 6 tomorrow!) and they sleep so much better than they did as babies (SO SO SO SOOOO much better!), the sleep issues have never stopped in our house: going to sleep is still a struggle, nighttime wake-ups are still a struggle, and yes, even mornings are a struggle.
So, to capture two of the most annoying preferred parent/sleep-related dynamics that we still deal with on a regular basis, I decided to make some flowcharts (because I’m fun + hip like that! I’m a Super Chill Mom!).
First up, let’s talk about mornings and why I never get to sleep past the children [on the 2-3 mornings per week that I don’t wake up before them to exercise]…
