I’m sick. I won’t bore you with the details but suffice it to say that I feel like shite.
So, in lieu of the new comic I was planning this week, I’m sharing some subscriber comics from last year (pre-Substack) about times when I was sick/what happens when moms get sick.
But first, I’d be remiss if I didn’t include this old comic, as it encapsulates what it’s like to be a sick mom vs. sick dad:
I made this next one when I had pneumonia last year and was sick for almost 3 months because I could never get the kind of real rest I needed to recover fully:
At the end of the day, moms can’t ever really be sick. I mean, they can, but they’re still parenting—there are no real breaks when the kids are home. So moms keep functioning, just at a slightly lower level than usual…
There’s a reason that there are so many memes and tweets about moms wanting to be juuust sick enough to “enjoy” a short hospital stay. Because where else can moms get actual rest?
Anywho, I’m about to go crawl back into bed because my kids are at school and I need to be well enough to parent solo from 4pm on tonight.
Thanks for sticking with me—hope you’re feeling healthy this week!
xoxo,
Mary Catherine
Get well soon! This resonated too much. Gotta laugh otherwise I’d cry 😭😂
Oh geez, hope you feel better soon (and that you get more help).
