Happy July 2nd!
I’m just back from a week-long trip to Georgia (to visit my side of the family) during which I learned that:
I can travel alone with the kids and it’s not too hard. In fact, it was fun! Quite fun. Does this mean that the second half of my parenting life is beginning? I sure hope so.
Living by the beach really is the biggest gift and I should never, EVER take it for granted. The beach makes sweltering summer days with kids so much more bearable.
If given the chance to eat as much junk food as they want, our kids WILL NOT STOP. On our flight to GA, I watched in horror as Charlie Mae ate more garbage in one sitting than she has in her entire life [combined]. I tried my hardest not to say anything but wow, was it hard for me. And unfortunately, she felt fine after, so she didn’t even learn the overindulging lesson that I’d hoped was inevitable (and would be self-correcting). Kewl kewl.
That being said, now I’m back and it’s July already (!) so here are a few of my favorite simple, sensory joys from last month...
[New to SJOTM? Read the backstory here.]
Before last week’s trip, we hadn’t seen my nephew, Henry, in almost a year. He’s only 2, so you can imagine how much he’s changed since we saw him last! Charlie Mae and Teddy were OBSESSED with him and he was obsessed with them and seeing the three of them together all week warmed my heart. Family is the best.
If you aren’t taking long walks while listening to a good audiobook, you’re missing out. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I use the Libby app to checkout audiobooks from my library and can’t recommend it enough.
My fave recent read? The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson. It’s SO good.
My sister-in-law, Caitlin, made these frozen margaritas for us on our trip and they were DELICIOUS. I’ve never made margaritas at home (no idea why?) but having a good, easy recipe like this one has inspired me to make them at some point this summer. Hopefully this weekend if I can get my act together (doubtful, ha!).
OBVIOUSLY. Ripe peaches = always + forever. No more explanation needed. #eatthedamnpeach
Splurged on this Vuori jumpsuit for myself earlier this month and it is the comfiest. I love their joggers (they’ve become my uniform since buying 4 pairs with my yoga teacher discount earlier this year!) but this jumpsuit? Next level.
Before I go, a quick reminder that I’ve got lots of fun summer hats, tees, and tanks in my shop, like these—
I also have another Cape Cod yoga retreat coming up in October:
I hope your June was full of simple joys, too—and that you find a few moments to reflect on them today.
As always, thanks for being here!
xoxo,
Mary Catherine
Yoga retreat! That sounds amazing and has peaked my curiosity.
Libby is amazing. I always check Libby before I purchase. The last good book I listened to on Libby was The Collected Regrets of Clover. A book that definitely brings forward all the feelings. Also, Ali Wong’s memoir, Dear Girls.
