One of the most challenging parts of being a mom (or primary parent/default parent) is how everyone is always talking to you at the same time while music is playing and a loud toy is being used and the blender is going or someone is crying (or whining) and also the fridge is beeping because the door isn’t closed all the way and wait, what’s that sound coming from upstairs?
In my house, I’m often having 2-3 different conversations with different people at the exact same time because EVERYONE ALWAYS WANTS TO TELL MOM SOMETHING (including Ben).
And this, over the course of an hour, a morning, an evening, a day, a weekend, a year, 5 years, really takes a toll on my ability to focus, remain patient, and do anything mindfully.
It also often ends with me doing something like what happens in this week’s autobiographical comic (I jotted down the convo in my notes app right after it happened…as you do when all of your work focuses on what it’s like to be a modern mom…):
